Why Japan Should Be on Every Filipino's Bucket List
Japan is a country of stunning contrasts — ancient shrines standing beside neon-lit skyscrapers, bullet trains whisking you between centuries-old cities, and cherry blossoms painting entire landscapes pink each spring. For Filipino travelers, Japan is consistently one of the most popular and rewarding destinations in Asia.
From the iconic silhouette of Mt. Fuji to the deer-filled parks of Nara, from the bustling streets of Tokyo's Shibuya crossing to the serene bamboo groves of Kyoto — Japan never fails to amaze first-timers and repeat visitors alike.
Must-See Destinations
Mt. Fuji & Chureito Pagoda
The classic shot of Japan — the five-story Chureito Pagoda in Fujiyoshida with Mt. Fuji rising majestically in the background, framed by cherry blossoms in spring or fiery maple leaves in autumn. The pagoda requires a climb of 398 steps but rewards you with one of the most iconic views in the world. The best vantage point for Mt. Fuji photographs is Lake Kawaguchiko, just a short bus ride from Fujiyoshida.
Tokyo
Japan's capital is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own character: Shibuya's iconic scramble crossing, the otaku culture of Akihabara, the fashion streets of Harajuku, the temples of Asakusa, and the luxury boutiques of Ginza. Tokyo also has some of the world's best food — from Michelin-starred restaurants to ¥500 ramen shops.
- Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa — Tokyo's oldest and most visited temple
- Teamlab Borderless — immersive digital art museum
- Tsukiji Outer Market — fresh sushi and sashimi for breakfast
- Shinjuku Gyoen — stunning park, especially during cherry blossom season
Kyoto
If Tokyo is Japan's present, Kyoto is its soul. The city has over 1,600 Buddhist temples, 400 Shinto shrines, and 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Don't miss the thousands of vermillion torii gates at Fushimi Inari, the golden pavilion of Kinkaku-ji, and the Arashiyama bamboo grove.
Osaka
Osaka is Japan's food capital — known as "the nation's kitchen." Street food in Dotonbori (takoyaki, okonomiyaki, kushikatsu), the massive Osaka Castle, and the nearby ancient city of Nara with its free-roaming deer make Osaka an essential stop.
Sakura Season (late March–early April): Cherry blossom season is Japan's most magical time. Parks, riverbanks, and castle grounds transform into pink wonderlands. Book at least 3–4 months in advance as flights and hotels sell out fast.
Japan Tourist Visa for Filipinos
Filipinos require a tourist visa to visit Japan. The process involves submitting your application through an accredited travel agency (that's us!) to the Japan Consulate in Manila or Cebu. Required documents typically include:
- Valid passport (at least 6 months validity)
- Completed visa application form
- Bank certificate and statement (last 3–6 months)
- Proof of employment or business registration
- Flight itinerary and hotel bookings
- Income Tax Return (ITR)
Processing time is typically 5–7 business days. We handle the entire application process and document review so you can focus on planning what to eat and where to go.
Best Time to Visit
Japan is beautiful year-round, but the two most popular seasons are spring (March–May) for cherry blossoms and autumn (October–November) for fall foliage. Summer (June–August) is hot and humid but great for festivals. Winter (December–February) brings snow to many areas and is ideal for skiing.
Getting Around
The Japan Rail Pass is the best investment for tourists — it gives unlimited travel on JR trains including the Shinkansen bullet trains between Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and beyond. IC cards (Suica, Pasmo) work on local trains, buses, and even convenience stores.
